Be an Everyday Hero by Helping Stop Animal Abuse

Everyday, all over the world, animals are being neglected, beaten, and left on the street. Dogs, cats, horses, and livestock are treated carelessly. They are underfed and left outside in harsh environments. Untreated medical conditions, such as fleas, ticks, parasites, cancerous tumors, and mange, to name a few, can shorten, end, or make uncomfortable an animals life. Yet another type of animal cruelty is dog fighting. Dogs fights happen almost everyday, where two dogs, usually about the same size, are forced to fight each other until one dog is declared the winner, and the other the loser. These dogs can have many different injuries from a single dog fight, including external and internal bleeding, puncture wounds, and broken bones. Matt Bershadker, the CEO and President of The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), says, "Dog fighting is a cruelty-for-profit industry." 

What Can You do to Help End Animal Cruelty?

First, you need to make sure that the animal is actually being abused before jumping to conclusions. Is that dog/cat's breed supposed to be outside in this weather? Does my neighbor just feed and water their animals early in the morning? Are there any physical signs that the animal is being abused or neglected, such as untreated cuts or bruises, or being seriously underweight or overweight? Have I witness any abusive behavior towards the animal?

If after all those questions you still believe a animal is being abused, contact the local animal control, law enforcement, or humane organization. Please, do not remove the animal yourself. 

Other ways you can help are by: adopting pets from your local animal shelter instead of buying from a breeder, donating to charity's that help end animal abuse, and volunteering at animal shelters.
